Why we built it
Engineers at AI-heavy companies routinely juggle three or four model providers — each with its own SDK, billing model, key management, and retry semantics. By the time you wire up a single product, you have built half an integration platform you never wanted to maintain.
Bytespike collapses that surface. One API key authenticates against all major LLM providers — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, plus the strong open-source models. Credits are denominated in micro-USD; estimated cost ships in a response header before the model starts generating; failed requests never bill. The plumbing is invisible so you can spend your time on the product.
We are built by engineers in Hangzhou, registered in Delaware. We chose this structure deliberately: the operating team works the China-friendly hours where most of our early customers live, while the legal entity sits in the US where Stripe, AWS, and the model providers themselves are headquartered. It is not a tax move; it is so the company can sign contracts and accept payments on infrastructure built for SaaS.
How we work
- Failed requests never bill — A 5xx from us, a network blip, a generation timeout — none of these cost you a credit. The estimated_credits header makes the price visible before the model generates so there are no after-the-fact surprises.
- One key, every model — Call the model you ask for, get its errors surfaced as-is, and never pay a markup on token rates. Add a new model by changing a string in your request body.
- Plain pricing in USD — All prices are quoted in U.S. dollars, no hidden conversions. Pay-as-you-go credits — top up once, spend per the rate card; no subscriptions, no auto-renewal, and credits never expire.
- Compliance is not optional — We follow industry-standard security controls and comply with GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and PIPL for personal data we process on your behalf. Enterprise customers can request a counter-signed Data Processing Addendum.
